Based on the version of KoA from 2020 :) Originally Ember was a mean grumpy dragon who lived alone in a cave on the seaside. None of the other dragons knew he had fled his kingdom, wanted for betraying his King for the rebels. But he was closed off and curt, given up on his kingdom and his past life. After years of searching, Cal finds Ember at a seaside town outside Ash’s outskirts. He’s relieved, the King having told the Kingdom Ember was caught and executed when he first rebelled. But Cal is quickly taken aback when Ember shows no interest in him or the Kingdom at all, and is actually hostile towards him. Eventually though, one of the Kings people finds them, and the two have to fend off more and more of them while Ember is slowly convinced to return to kill the King himself. At the very least for Cal

Watching the fireworks of the summer festival from the rooftops. These are the hazy yet warm memories that will sometimes halt the Captain in his tracks. From when they were still only kids. The sound of a faraway thunderstorm. Warm, freshly baked pan dulce. Eyes any shade of blue. He’d be struck with a bittersweet memory he didn’t know he still had. Shaking him enough from his senses that he finds himself muttering quick apologies or excusing himself from a conversation.
