An orange-tan-coloured patch of Mars, which is slightly lighter on the left and darker on the right. The image is dominated by patch of dark ripples in the centre. The ripples have little white patches on them, making them look slightly shiny or metallic. The rest of the image is scattered with smaller craters and rough, dusty-looking land.
Clouds of transparent blue and purple gas and dust extend from slightly left of centre to the right side of the frame. Several yellow and white protostars, some showing Webb’s eight-pronged diffraction pattern are dispersed throughout the clouds. Orange wisps and filaments of gas extend from one of the protostars at the centre toward the top left and bottom right corners of the frame. There are numerous, distant yellow and white galaxies strewn about the black background of space.]
On 17 June 2026, Ariane 6 flight VA269 soars into blue skies towards orbit from Europe’s Spaceport in French Guiana, water from the sound suppression system covers the camera lens creating a dramatic effect as exhaust plume approaches.

An array of features: craters, dark volcanic rock, crater walls and ejecta, highlands and lowlands, knobs and mesas. This section of the original image shows older and more cratered terrain, with prominent light-toned clay deposits; these cover bumpy ground featuring numerous round and eroded impact craters.

This image is from the MIRI instrument on the JWST. In the mid-infrared, the outer bubble has a bluish tint and there is more material in the inner clouds, which are coloured off-white. The vertical dark lane is present but more interrupted and covered by the clouds. Material appears to be erupting out the top of the nebula, and this effect is mirrored to a lesser degree at the bottom, opposite end.

This is the first photograph taken of Earthrise taken by a human (Bill Anders, Apollo 8) as he watched the event unfold. The effect of the fogged window is apparent.
