my 1.5 star review of star trek: nemesis while it has close competition, this might be the worst star trek movie i've seen so far. let me start off with the things i like! i thought the beginning scene where riker and troi get married was nice. i thought the idea of a prototype android that data would nurture had potential. that might be all i liked. uhhhh visually it looks passable! anyways, heres what i didnt like. its a boring as fuck action movie. its like theyve been trying to recapture the magic of the wrath of khan for decades and they can never get it quite right again. i dont think the villain is very compelling. i thought the idea of a picard clone was a little cliche, if very in character for star trek. but the movie insists on this weird almost bioessentialist slant to the character of shenzon. they keep coming back to this idea of "he could have been a good guy because picard is a good guy!" and "he has the genes that make our captain a great man, but he was tortured and is now evil." it is kind of a nature vs nurture argument, but they keep repeating this idea that there is an inescapable connection between the two men, despite the only thing they share being their dna. its pretty frustrating. onto the remans! i dont like them that much either.
Picard is off screen in a runabout, encouraging Worf to "Sing, Worf, sing." along to a musical that Data has been practicing for. Worf looks fucking PISSED, and he is rapidly shaking his head no.
