When Jacob followed her inside, he found himself in an opulent study. The walls were almost completely lined with bookshelves, save for the one which held a large window that looked out on the city below. It was open, and a cold breeze set the curtains billowing. A desk sat below the window, and someone sat in a chair before it. It was a strange chair, with a very narrow back, and the person in it was even stranger, for the first and nearly only thing that Jacob could see was a pair of large, white, feathered wings. He gaped at this bizarre sight. He had expected wings, for the ruling class and thus many of the slave owners in Tara were dragons, but the wings of dragons were leathery, not feathered. He'd never met anyone with feathered wings. As the chair pushed back and the person in it stood and turned, Jacob gaped even more. He wasn't a dragon at all. He was a cat. A common housecat, white with black patches and no taller than Jacob himself. He might have been an inch shorter, even. He had long black hair caught in a tail, as was the fashion among the gentry. His clothes were the height of current fashion also, a blue embroidered jacket over a matching waistcoat, with a ruffled cravat at his throat. Master Sylvestris's eyes were an intense blue, and his gaze was intense also. Jacob swallowed as his new master looked him over from head to foot. Suddenly the cat's short stature didn't seem quite so laughable. Jacob shifted under that gaze, self-consciously aware of his shabby clothing and ill-groomed fur. Finally, mercifully, Master Sylvestris's gaze flicked away from Jacob, to where Lyra stood beside him. "Our new slave has arrived, I see." His voice was soft, a light tenor with a faint accent that Jacob couldn't place. "Yes sir," she said. "His name is Jacob." "You can be about your business, I'll take him in hand for now. And don't send anyone else up tonight, he'll do well enough."...(truncated, sorry!)
A photo I snagged from duckduck go because I spaced out on taking my own, oops. It shows a background of greenery and a long stem holding buds and tiny white flowers. The individual flower stems *appear* to be growing out of the inside of the flower, where the stamen etc. would normally be.

Aidan's Accidentally Un-dropped biscuits 2 cups flour 1/2 tsp baking soda 2 tsp baking powder 1 tsp salt 1/4 cup melted butter 1 cup very cold buttermilk Mix dry ingredients. Allow melted butter to cool to room temperature, so liquid but not hot. Drizzle into buttermilk and stir until "crackles" form. Gently fold into dry ingredients. Roll out, cut into circles. Bake at 400f for around 15 minutes. This method is superior because you don't have to fuck around with pinching butter into pea-sized pieces while trying to keep it cold. You also don't have to roll and fold layers, though you can if you want to try for layered flakeyness and self-splitting biscuits, but it is tender and flakey without bothering.
