Just yesterday demolition workers revealed this old Zen Buddhist structure previously hidden behind metal sheeting. Some pretty intense public interest here this morning; city councilors are inspecting, media reporting.

Interesting. Looks kind of strange and atypical for Taiwan. Reminds me more of some sort of orthodox mausoleum or so.

Here's a historic photo of Taichung Temple (臺中寺), undated but plausibly from the 1920s or thereabouts. After the war this temple was repurposed for use by government agencies and demolished by 1980. The rediscovered building was likely built years after this was taken, but certainly prior to 1945.
By “old” we mean post war, right?
