When the game came out, I didn't think I was good enough to beat it. When I streamed it, chat encouraged me to not give up. Beating Undertale changed me forever, in the best way.
gerson's fight is intended to be progressed through fighting. it doesn't harm him because he dodges, and it builds up both TP (necessary to use rude buster and to practice Susie's healing) and impression points, so it's an action we can take without second thought. he taunt-dodges by doing a handstand and twirls in delight whenever we land a rude buster. attacking, using magic, is what the game expects from us. so we don't question it. But... Gerson wrote Lord of the Hammer. While recounting what happens in his books, he cites "The Isles of NothernLight". Which is referenced directly in the Mantle game. You know. The hidden LoZ like minigame where you're only given a sword, so even players on an all recruited playthrough have little qualms about slaying the enemies in the game. it's what the game expects from us.
