Stew Meat, tossed in whole wheat flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion; browned slightly before putting in the pot Onions, baby bella mushrooms, and celery sauteed until soft Water, beef better than bouillon, and Wash-your-sister sauce and tomato paste poured in, meat added, thyme, oregano, paprika, salt and pepper to season (and a bit of Cholula), some milk to combat the acidity Simmered for a few hours before adding chunked sweet potatoes and slices of carrots (need to cut the potatoes smaller next time) and simmered for a few more hours

She peered into the large simmering stew pot and breathed deeply. It smelled wonderful, full of wild garlic and onion, large chunks of elk, potatoes and purple carrots. Greta truly had a gift. She could turn any pile of random ingredients into a work of art in in that stew pot. Sionna ladled herself a large helping, and settled herself into a chair at the table opposite the jumpy woman and her potatoes.
The most important part of the harvest, and Sionna’s personal favorite that made all the insufferable bustle worthwhile, was when her grandfather, The Elder, would take a great bowl full of the finest berries that were set aside during their harvesting and slowly walk into the cool waters of the creek, chanting old blessings in a forgotten tongue. He would walk till he reached the middle of the creek, where the water reached just to his hip. He would then raise the bowl high, his normally quiet voice booming through the trees on the opposite bank as he tipped the bowl upside down, the little blue gems of the wild plopping softly into the water before floating off lazily.
It was during one of these cold, snowy winters that an outsider rode into the village on a tired old mare, bearing a little bundle close to their chest. They wove through the little village like they had taken the path a dozen times before, their trail being quickly covered by the thickening snow. As they approached the large round hut in the center of the village that served as the main hall, the outsider dismounted the mare, giving her a fond pat and some oats from her satchel. When they had properly fastened her to the hitching post, they pulled the bundle closer before stepping inside. As the door closed behind them, the previously bustling hall went silent as all eyes turned to the newcomer, who paid them no mind as they approached the high table where what few village elders were left were sat. The hall was large in comparison to the small shacks surrounding it, and during the winters tended to be where the villagers spent most of their time. It was adorned with furs, and was brightly lit from the large sunken hearth in the center of the hall. The room was filled with the smell of smoked meats, roasted vegetables and spilled beer, with signs of a recent hunt still smoking over the hearth. But bowls and flagons were left forgotten, as all eyes watched this newcomer approach the table of the Elders like one of them. They placed their slender hand on the table before speaking in a soft, shaky feminine voice, “Elders of the Brook, I have ridden long and far seeking your wisdom and your aid, as those have before me.” As she spoke, the light glinted off the ring on her index finger. It bore a blood red ruby, crowned with flowers of diamond set in sterling silver. The oldest and wisest of the Elders placed his hand over hers, covering the ring from view.
