Being trans will now be a protected characteristic under the law, alongside disability. Thanks to an amendment introduced by Lord Hanson, trans people will have the same legal protections as those protected on the basis of gender, race, religion, sexuality, and other characteristics. This is especially key in making hate crime legislation completely equal, now trans and disabled people will have the same protections as other groups.
