As hyped as Claude Code + Obsidian is, I have no desire to upload my personal unencrypted vault data to Anthropic or anyone else. I hope that the ideas of private inference and confidential computing that Moxie described take off. It's how all LLMs should work.

Yep, that was exactly my thinking. I didn’t opt out of Notion (partially also because their AI), to E2E encrypted Obsidian just to throw everything at Claude or ChatGPT.

As I build my vault I was just thinking I'd need some kind of local server to do this properly, but Confer + Obsidian sounds like a good solution.

So far, the only player doing it (or the closest thing to it) at scale is Apple with their Private Cloud Compute. It’s the only impressive (and overlooked) feat in the middle of the otherwise botched Apple Intelligence rollout.
