The four attachment styles are valuable, but they are also an oversimplification. Experiences create expectations, and the complex relational dynamics we experienced with our caregiver(s) shape how we navigate future relationships and what we expect from others.
The natural human response to difficult feelings is avoidance. Real strength is learning to sit with those feelings, to feel them, to honor them.
The medicine of the future will be interdependence and felt safety in community.
Always be yourself, because if they don't like you, why would you want them around anyway? And what's the point of having them like someone else?
The things we needed from our parents as children are the same things we need from our leaders at work. It might look a little different. It might sound a little different. But our nervous systems are the same whether we are 3 years old or 93 years old.
I dream in colors that don't exist, in shades and hues that I won't see in my lifetime, but I paint anyway in the hope that future generations will be delighted and inspired to dream in colors I can't even begin to imagine.
Saying that a disabled child is doing well so they don't need supports anymore is like says we survived Y2K, let's reintroduce 2 digit years in software. Happy New Year!
