Steve Simkins @stevedylan.dev · Feb 12 I can see that perspective, but I’m still hesitant in that smart contracts and blockchain are the answer. Not to mention XMTP is using their own L3 app chain which kinda makes decentralization a moot point. Using an L2 would probably be too expensive to scale.

yeah, this is my least favorite design choice worth pointing out that although it logically centralizes things, this approach allows others to run nodes, and with fully encrypted messages (including metadata), it remains a neutral layer It's open source, so forking is always an option 😅
Oh you’re totally right today, we’ve been debating the tradeoffs on how to get total ordering with MLS and this allowed us to start and be open about our plan. We are fully focused on getting to BFT, aware what we have today is too much. I’m curious if you have other ideas to achieve that?
