or maybe, to analogize in another way that's near and dear to my heart: life and i's dad was basically fucked over by the time period he lived. his dad and his dad's dad all got to be beef cattle farmers. but when it came time for dad to have a farm, consolidation in the farming industry meant that he couldn't feed our family with our farm. the math just doesn't math. so he had to go get a tool and die job. and then farm for fun. if he'd managed to live longer, i bet as times eventually wrapped around, the farm to table movement and similar things would have maybe made his farming sustainable again. but you know, cancer. so yeah i've forever very strongly felt that it's deeply unfair that what i happened to enjoy doing is economically valuable, but my(our) father's isn't/wasn't. but also at the same time, i also think that scaling up farming so that more people have food is good and that also factory farming has a ton of straight-up fuckin evil that should be regulated more heavily so none of that is "lol artisans suck" or "factory farming is good" or anything else in total. it's that shit is hard and the world is grey and that's frustrating as fuck
