Her dad's career focus is environmental law, and growing up, Kick had all kinds of astonishing encounters with Mother Nature. In a 2012 interview with Town & Country, she recalled an especially colorful childhood event in which her dad - who has a thing for animal skulls and skeletons - took her down to the beach with a chainsaw to retrieve the head of a dead beached whale. They bungee-corded the head to the roof of the family minivan for the five-hour haul back home. "Every time we accelerated on the highway, whale juice would pour into the windows of the car, and it was the rankest thing on the planet," Kick said. "We all had plastic bags over our heads with mouth holes cut out, and people on the highway were giving us the finger, but that was just normal day-to-day stuff for us."

Let me mansplain a bit about why insisting that it doesn't matter that Gus Walz is neurodivergent, "We should defend ALL boys' ability to cry" etc., is not the flex you think it is. The creatures from the MAGA lagoon attacked Gus in ways that neurodivergent kids are ALWAYS attacked: painting them as freaks and suggesting they were badly parented. Think of it this way: Calling any kid a ***** stings, but calling a gay kid the F-word hurts even more.

So many people are getting the story about the JD Vance ordering Swiss on his cheesesteak slightly wrong. It's not that he was so clueless as to order such a thing. It's worse: Vance was making fun of the war hero Sen. John Kerry, who was ridiculed in August 2003 for making the same order, while being swiftboated by the GOP. In other words, it was a deep cut of GOP ratf*ckery, resurrected by Vance because he's a really, really weird creep.
