A photo of Turnip Rock, in the state of Michigan, U.S.A. As it's name might suggest, the rock is shaped somewhat like a turnip; its base is very narrow, while its top part is more bulbous. Adding to the resemblance, trees grow on top of the rock much like turnip stalks. Turnip Rock is located on The Thumb of Michigan, near where Lake Huron meets land. The rock itself is surrounded by water; it is shallow enough other submerged brown rocks can be seen in the photo. Surrounding the base of Turnip Rock, the water has a distinctive green color.

In the bottom center half of the image, there are a large number of pines growing up the foothills on the canyon. Above them is a towering, sheer cliff-face of limestone. Towards the very top of the cliffs, small groups of foliage grow from the bare rock. A small amount of bright blue sky pokes through the trees and cliffs.
