At a basic level, Zeno is pointing to a simple problem that affects learning. *When a person starts believing things about themselves or the world without checking whether they are true, they slowly move away from real knowledge.* This is what is meant by self-deception. It does not always come from lying in a direct way. Often, it happens quietly when someone convinces themselves that their version of events is correct, even when evidence suggests otherwise.

For several years, I worked in Ethiopia and Djibouti. There are still tribes of hunters and nomadic warriors living there. Contact with different cultures, such as Western culture, causes all their values, their way of understanding the world, the stories they tell their children, and their mythologies to collapse. After contact, these stories look odd. The children stop recognizing themselves in their parents, in their elders; they no longer want to go on. Many fall into drugs or alcohol. In the capital of Djibouti, a large part of the population lives under the influence of drugs. The young people only dream of emigrating to Yemen, where the worst kind of slavery imaginable awaits them.
The willful ignorance & scientifically-illiterate fear mongering in the comments would be hilarious if not for the embarrassment they are to humanity for thoroughly rejecting the incredible gift of intelligence that was bestowed upon our species.

"you're never gonna find a solid reason the church isn't true" The Church makes claims that are demonstrably not true. It makes claims that, if true, could be easily demonstrated but no one is able to demonstrate. It makes claims that are impossible to be true given all of observable reality & what we know to be true. If anyone cares about truth, it's easily observed that Mormonism is not true.

A lot of people don't understand logic & think that it's just "what makes sense." The problem is that when you're irrational, irrationality makes sense to you. I can't count the number of times a religious person has accused me or others of "not understanding basic logic" even as they sit there spouting fallacious nonsense."
If God is omnipotent, none of it makes any sense. An omnipotent being could just make people the way he wants them to be. If God were omnipotent, but also a sick bastard that gets off on seeing mortals suffer, well now it makes sense.

America isn't falling apart because Trump got reelected. America is falling apart because it became the kind of country that would elect Trump to begin with. Trump isn't the disease. Trump is just the worst symptom to date.
