To me, the two most fascinating characters in Star Trek (although for different reasons…)

Theirs was a barely hinted-at office romance, but there are a few scenes in TOS that suggested a flirtatious connection between Uhura and Spock. The reboot films picked up on this and ran with it (too much, imho)…

Worst part of this is Spock trying to weasel out of being flirted with by lying. The Vulcan does have a moon.

This may be one of the sexiest moments on a fictional spaceship ever.
Most of S1 has this carefree camaraderie between the characters. It’s very loose and raw. Fades in the later parts of the season and S2 is more “formal” in tone.
All those moments were cut for ever-more commercials in syndication, so they’re always a lovely surprise.

Even recognizing that Spock is playing a role for Kirk's sake, this interaction is problematic against newer depictions of him. Spock was literally in on pranking Uhura.

Please bear in mind how old these films are! At the time, they were really ahead of their time. A kiss between Uhura and Kirk: unthinkable. And yet: it happened! (Albeit in a cut version.) 🖖
