It was not yet nighttime, though deep inside the woodland, where Seaton walked, it had begun to grow darker. He spent so much time in the thicket behind his small house, that he could make his way out only by the light of the moon and stars. But there were strange happenings growing around him now. Nothing major, only slight differences, that had he not been so attuned to his surroundings, he most likely would have missed: the birds flying above him, flapping their wings with stronger conviction, fur covered creatures hastily crossing his path as they scrambled up the trees or into a nearby burrow, the chirping of crickets growing louder and faster. The ground erupted bits of earth as he walked, though he saw no signs of it doing so anywhere else but under his very footsteps. A smoky shadow blew past his face, hovering about him. He moved ahead at a quickened pace, knowing he was to exit the woods and make his way home.
