The small (3-4mm) moss snipefly Ptiolina obscura...a male with black body and reddish eyes. with a single colour band across the middle.
A mating pair of Spring Heath Robberflies basking in the sun on an open area of sandy soil formed from an old mole hill
Norellisoma flavicorne (was N. opacum)...a small, grey dungfly with orange legs and long bristles beneath the fore femora. Found around Meadowsweet beds.
An all black sawfly, Dolerus anthracinus (common name Sooty Griever) sits on a white sweep net bag. A rare sawfly in Yorkshire, associated with good quality chalk grassland and found here at Frendal Dale in Millington Pastures, East Yorkshire.
