The Breaking Point The real wake-up call came during an incident review. We had a cascade failure. One database query took longer than expected. That blocked an async task. Which held up the executor. Which caused other tasks to queue. Within minutes, the whole service was timing out. The root cause? A 3-second database query. Something that should have been isolated to one request somehow took down everything.
