It wasn't like kids came with a manuals and they didn't exactly have the best parental influences or upbringings to call upon for examples. What the hell was 'anything,' anyway? As it happened, 'anything' was everything that followed that day: the tantrums, the school plays, the skinned knees, and the homework. It was learning to cook, making friends with his teachers, and figuring out how to tame curly hair. 'Anything' was the sleepless nights and the long, rambling conversations and the hours of searching for the right word to make him smile or to inspire his curious mind. It was learning how to raise another life when he could barely take care of himself. Too bad this only became clear to him in retrospect, long after he'd spent his kid's full lifetime looking just past him to fix his eyes on retribution. It was only when Ren left for Tokyo that he realized that the most important years of his life had already passed and he'd been so stuck on the idea of striking down the Crawling Chaos that he'd forgotten who it was all for.
