Theo Beers @t6e.dev · Nov 18 Looked at this colophon again today, from the oldest dated copy of the Arabic Kalīla wa-Dimna, ms. Ayasofya 4095 in the Süleymaniye Library. The date is perhaps not impressively early: the first day (mustahall) of Jumādā II 618, i.e., ~23 July 1221 CE.

For a work dated to ca. 750 CE—not that we know any details about the circumstances of its composition—this gap opens quite a can of worms. (I know there are many worse cases in many fields, including our own…)
