It looks like contributing more or an equal amount compared to the other people on the mushroom does indeed give you a better chance at being awarded a rare event box. When the group earns more stars the probabilities also seem to become more lenient

Ever since i moved back into the city a bit over a week ago, the game has felt so much harder. Way less event mushrooms - especially the giant ones on weekends - and the few that do spawn fill up immediately... 😔 might be over for my plans of 12000 event points
