Dealing with a fraction of this year's gooseberry crop - a bumper harvest despite a sawfly infestation, which I followed current RHS advice and removed by hand. This turns out both to work reasonably well and to be quite a relaxing / mindful activity.

Although, the sawfly did still defoliate quite a bit, leading to my testing the patience of everyone around me by repeatedly saying, "Look how they massacred my boy!" in a Marlon Brando voice each time I removed some larvae.

Nice approach! Did you find hand removing the sawflies significantly improved the harvest?
