The "Jordan Rail" was invented in Canada, by Oswald F. Jordan. If a train derails over a river, the inner rail catches the wheel flanges, preventing a deadly plunge.

Thatβs wild. Wow. Reminds me of how in high school we got to track practice by running across a train trestle. Our coach had us do drills in case a train came: we practiced clinging to the outside of the frame. Totally unsanctioned terror/thrill of Gen-X childhood. I have a poem about it.
