This suggests an intent to abandon the current VIA corridor, cutting off thousands of people in smaller communities while maintaining a few core ridership drivers. That would be disastrous.

Interesting: a combined VIA Rail-Alto station for #Kingston Ontario is on the table. To be clear, the actual alignment won't be announced until fall 2026.

Modern fast reliable subways in major cities is more of a priority than HS rail. But rather than the ALTO planned route ruining farmland & natures habitat, use the 401 route between Toronto & Montreal & upgrade the VIA rail links to Ottawa
