There are ways we know things. Sometimes it's laid out neat and clear, how somethin happened, how somethin's gonna happen, like an itinerary or, in the case of who someone is, like a yearbook pic- ture with a résumé stapled behind. But as you've likely figured out by now, that's not generally how things unfold in the thick of things. That first impression is too often just a way to not see what happens next. The clearest view, on the other hand, demands an awareness mindful of the slow but uninterruptible accretion of detail. But that is a pro- cess that tolerates no rush. This is what some might call slow time but is really just time in all its fullness, especially when the matter at hand is real friends, which is perhaps our greatest try at fullness. Fer now, let us agree that this recountin so far does require some effort to coerce from memory and instincts a reasonable assessment and picture of those involved; though quite rightly it seems equally fair to expect now and then some effort here to refresh our collective understandin of folks depicted here.
