I think about the fact that the VE Day Riots were so much part of people’s pent up frustration about how absurdly inadequate the transit was to accommodate the huge influx in population because I feel the same ire bubbling now.

We paved over the tracks and replaced them with trolley busses (an admirable decision at the time) as maintenance costs were unsustainable, and the population was basically cut in half /2
