MoonShadow has never been what I thought *should* happen in 'The Owl House? I had an interesting conversation the other day with a friend who is just getting into The Owl House (ie, I am making her watch the show) and she was a little perplexed when I explained that MoonShadow wasn't even necessarily what I *wanted* to happen in canon. Like I said, it was very self-indulgent. I sometimes also have people ask me what I would have done differently in season three had it been up to me and...honestly, by the time season three aired, I was already so deep in the guts of my own story that it really doesn't matter. I enjoyed season three. My own fic means the world to me. They're...two different things. Two outcomes diverged in a red-leafed wood.

From page 256 of ‘A Fan’s Guide To The Iditarod’ by Mary Hood: the rules, Buser's sail was banned by the race marshal during the 1995 Iditarod. A rule revision addressing this issue is likely to be made. In 1994, Iditarod champion Jeff King created a stir when he announced to the press that he had a secret weapon that would be revealed at the Farewell Burn. As it turned out, the Burn had good snow cover for a change and King didn't need the controversial invention until he hit the barren trail along the coast. There he attached wheels to his sled, just in front of and behind where he stands on the runners. The race marshal consulted the rules, which specify that drivers must use "some type of sled or toboggan." This still did not resolve the question until Webster's Dictionary was invoked and clarified that a "sled" is "a vehicle on runners for moving over snow, ice, etc." No mention of wheels. Oh well-back to the drawing board. There seems to be a consensus among competitors that innovation is necessary and desirable, but boundaries are needed. After all, this is the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race and should be won on the basis of mushing dogs. Raising your jacket on ski poles may be resourceful and clever, but hoisting a forty-foot parasail and loading the entire team into the sled for a ride up the coast would not be sled-dog rac-ing. A consistent standard for evaluating such contrivances should be devised, which would respect the urge to improvise while preserving the quintessential nature of dog mushing.
