same for playing sound or going fullscreen... you can't do those if the user hasn't interacted with the page. maybe you've seen pages directly ask you to click on the screen to do anything. sometimes pages needs "permission" from the browser to autoplay media when loading the page.

these were all band-aid fixes that were added on later when browser vendors realized "wait a minute, maybe it's not a good idea to let websites move the window around". they had built an overly powerful API and had to restraint it because malicious actors exists.
