I'm sympathetic. It's reasonable, normally, to trust journalists. Unfortunately this is a topic where that is not safe; I don't know why, but I know empirically that there is an amazing amount of distorting spin here. E.g. compare the headline of that article to the paper they are reporting on. +

Compare the subtitle the journalists have written "LLMs will always produce plausible but false outputs" to the actual last sentence of the abstract: "This change may steer the field toward more trustworthy AI systems." The spin is so intense that it has literally reversed the point.
