Tele Vue Optics, founded in 1977, has been thrilling amateur astronomers since 1979. It is our mission. It's in the materials we choose, the designs we create.

A colorful gem of the southern sky: This 2-frame mosaic captures the reflection nebulae Ced 110 and Ced 111 in Chamaeleon, nestled within the delicate dust clouds of one of the nearest star-forming regions. While Ced 111 glows in cool blue, Ced 110 in warm yellow.
Having already produced the 5″ MPT refractor for testing Tele Vue eyepieces, Al wanted bigger for his own observing. So, he designed and built this 8”, f/8.15 folded Petzval (4-element, flat-field) refractor. Like the Tele Vue MPT telescope, it includes an adjustable iris diaphragm to vary the f/ratio. Al mounted the scope on the homemade equatorial mount he made for his 12″ reflector and folded the light path to make observing more comfortable. It was dubbed the “Snake Coffin” by his dear observing friend Allan Green, co-founder of NEAF, and shown at Stellafane in 1983.

Tele Vue Nagler Type-7 eyepieces have black upper barrels with adjustable eyeguards and lower chrome barrels. In the video we demonstrate the adjustable eyeguard.

Tele Vue founder Al Nagler designed the lenses for the wide-field heliospheric imagers on 𝐍𝐀𝐒𝐀’𝐬 𝐏𝐨𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐇𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐨𝐬𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞 (𝐏𝐔𝐍𝐂𝐇) mission satellites. These imagers are used to study the solar wind. That mission is now a finalist for the AIAA “Small Satellite Mission of the Year”. Nominees must show innovation in structural design, instrument development, communications, attitude determination & control, intersatellite coordination, constellation management, onboard computing, & other aspects. A total lunar eclipse is often called a "blood moon" due to the dark red umbra. The umbra is the darkest central area of the Earth’s shadow and it appears red due to the refraction of red light through the Earth’s atmosphere and the scattering of the other colors in the visible spectrum, making those colors much less visible.
