i think “kill gameplay” is so hard for me to internalize because your thesis seems to not only apply to gameplay, but to anything that could be described as an art. you could argue a game is pretending to be alive in a way that a movie or a poem isn’t. but movies *are* pretending to be alive; they’re a series of images tricking you into the seeing living motion that has long since passed. and poems *are* pretending to be alive, they’re abstractions aimed toward reflecting a greater truth about living. gameplay isn’t any more a facsimile of life than any other art. i just have to hope that even if art is fake, it’s worthwhile anyway… i’m tired though. perhaps it’ll all make sense in the morning.
