Astronomers have been puzzled by images from the James Webb Space Telescope, which can see galaxies as they appeared shortly after the Big Bang. The galaxies they’re seeing are much brighter than models predicted. New research from UT Austin suggests that’s because small galaxies are “burstier” than expected, with more dramatic, rapid bursts of star formation, making them brighter. “Our work shows the answer may be that small galaxies are ‘fast and furious’ star formers.” – Julian Munoz
