We saw it all. And still, the world made excuses. They called it collateral damage. They accused grieving parents of staging their children's deaths. They looked at lifeless, dust-covered faces and refused to believe what their own eyes saw. These children were not granted innocence. They were not given the privilege of childhood. Instead, they were dehumanised, their lives weighed against politics, their suffering dismissed because they were born in the wrong place, to the wrong people, with the wrong skin. Would the world have wept if they were white? Would their names have been remembered, their futures fiercely defended? Instead, they are buried in mass graves, their laughter silenced, their dreams shattered beneath the rubble of apathy. The world barely blinked as they were pulled from the wreckage, wrapped in bloodied sheets, laid to rest in graves too small. History will remember this. It will remember the silence, the complicity, the ease with which the world scrolled past such horrors. History will ask what we did when Gaza burned. And too many will have to answer: We looked away

An unenhanced photo of the sky at night above my house in South West Scotland. There are many stars, and if you zoom in, you see even more. They go on forever. Towards the bottom left is Orion, and Jupiter, Mars and Uranus are visible in a line - someone with good eyesight could make them out, using the red star of Mars (almost central) as a starting point.

Early morning view over the stone wall across the green grassy fields. Everything has a blue tinge, any golden yellow sunlight blocked out by thick white clouds which fill the sky. It looks and feels very cold. In the far distance the Galloway Hills have a little snow at the tops, and above them the clouds have a large V shape, almost giving the illusion of a giant bird just taking off

Because it is only just dawn, the underside of some clouds is still in dark shadow, giving a dramatic yet positive view. The view over my stone garden wall into grassy fields beyond. This was at dawn, around 7.30am, so it was quite dark still and everything has a blue, cold tinge. No frost, but a pretty clear pale blue sky, with just a few clouds hanging over the tops of the Galloway Hills in the far distance.

My usual view over the stone wall looking across geassy fields towards the Galloway Hills in the far distance. Its misty and drizzly, so nothing looks clear. The grass is rippling with the wind gusts from Storm Eowyn and the distant bushes and trees are blowing about, as am I holding the camera.

A very dramatic view over a long stone wall running left to right of the widescreen image in full shadow. Over the wall a huge sky full of fairly heavy but fluffy clouds. As you near the ground it becomes more yellow and gold, until you reach the far distance where the moonset is full golden disappearing into the horizon through the broken clouds. No moon is visible, just the light from it reflecting on all of the clouds. Some of the clouds are dark and heavy, but most thin and bright.
Misty view over my stone wall into the green fields beyond. The Galloway Hills in the far distance are mostly hidden or shrouded by mist, and you can still see some mist over the fields. It looks colder than it is, but fresh and dewy, good for a brisk walk - in wellies.

Exactly the same view as the previous photo, over the stone garden wall looking at fields and the Galloway Hills. This time the view is visible, but through a thin mist with thick patches nearer the ground. The hills have fog at the base, then clear cold air, then frosty cloud above. It's a patchy, very cold view. The grass is still covered in frost.
My regular view over the stone wall into the green fields, with the Galloway Hills beyond, only today we can see no further than around 100 feet / 30 metres. The stone wall and grass have a coating of frost, and a thick fog hides the rest of the world. We can't see any hills or faraway fields. You know it must be out there, but you would have to walk through the fog to find it.
