April 7th, 2026 Tuesday 11:39 am Hi this is Kaitlin Marquardt calling, I am a constituent of Ron Johnson. I am calling to express my opposition to President Trump committing war crimes and causing humanitarian disasters in Gaza, Iran, and Lebanon. Senator Johnson said we are not at war with Iran and he needs to do more than hope and pray that we stop bombing civilians and infrastructure. President Trump should be impeached for war crimes. I am asking, as a constituent of Senator Johnson, that he do everything in his power as a sitting US Senator to prevent Trump from killing and displacing more people.

Costs $6 billion. There are lifelong psychological and sexual risks of circumcision. 97% of breast reduction surgeries on minors are for cisgender males. According to Geisheker (2013, p. 24), “Only 14% of US neonates enduring circumcision received any anesthesia… [often] a topical ointment, ineffective… and contraindicated for neonates or when applied to mucosal tissue.” [85] According to Taddio et al. (p. 599), “Circumcised infants showed a stronger pain response to subsequent routine vaccination than uncircumcised infants…” [78]
According to Menage [158] , circumcised men who have become aware that their sexual dysfunction may be at least partially a consequence of having been circumcised during infancy or childhood, have reported feelings of helplessness, abuse, frustration, and of being violated. Moreover, as Bensley and Boyle (2001, p. 215) re- ported, “Psychological consequences as a result of…surgery are well recognized in the medical literature (McGuire & Parkes [159] ). Potential effects of loss of body parts are: 1. Grief for altered body image or function, or both. 2. Anxiety, depression, and sexual problems. 3. Avoidance of or obsessive preoccupation with the loss.” [113]
As Bensley and Boyle (2003, p. 595) pointed out, “While vaginal dryness is considered an indicator for female sexual arousal disorder, male circumcision may exacerbate female vaginal dryness during intercourse. O’Hara and O’Hara reported that women who had experienced coitus with both intact and circumcised men preferred intact partners by a ratio of 8.6 to one. Most women (85.5%) in that survey reported that they were more likely to experience orgasm with a genitally intact partner… Presence of the movable foreskin makes a difference in foreplay, being more arousing to the female. Women reported they were about twice as likely to experience orgasm if the male partner had a foreskin.” [115]
Why might women with genitally intact partners prefer their sexual experiences? As Johmann (2003) has sug gested, using colloquial language to make the point: “The basic problem for the average [circumcised] Ameri- can man is that his penis has been so desensitized… that normal sexual intercourse with a female does not provide enough stimulation―hence the…man must work at it, banging away, trying to feel something.” [118]
As Denniston (2013, p. 63) pointed out, “Circumcision is a [wounding] that happens before a baby is capable of understanding the profound pain and [one] that is forced upon him without his consent in the [most] vulnerable first days of life. Circumcision interferes with the maternal/infant bond, disrupts breastfeeding and normal sleep patterns, and undermines a male’s first developmental task of establishing trust… Every sexual experience a male has after circumcision is [based] on a neuronal background of pain, even if the male does not [consciously] remember or recognize it... In 2022 we campaigned extensively in the US for anti-trust legislation. Two bills were ready, with bipartisan support. Chuck Schumer (who coincidently has two daughters working as big tech lobbyists) refused to bring the bills for a vote. At a 2024 event covering antitrust remedies, out of all the invited senators, " just a single one showed up - JD Vance. By working on the front lines of many policy issues, we have seen the shift between Dems and Republicans over the past decade first hand. Dems had a choice between the progressive wing (Bernie Sanders J etc), T versus corporate Dems but in the end money won and constituents lost. In other words, novelty is a rough shortcut for identifying interestingness: Interesting ideas are those that open up new possibilities. And while it might sound wishy-washy to go looking for “interesting” things, interestingness is a surprisingly deep and important concept. In the words of the famous philosopher Alfred Whitehead [42]: “It is more important that a proposition be interesting than it be true.” W.T. Stace [43], another philosopher, adds that “the criticism that interestingness is a trivial end proceeds from a scale of values thus perverted and turned upside down.” Far from trivial, novel and interesting ideas tend to suggest new ways of thinking that lead to further novelties.

With this special event sickness, unlike my everyday state of being run-down, autoimmune unwell, I get to enjoy what normal, mostly healthy people experience during a seasonal illness that takes them down for a time. I receive well-wishes from friends and my email contacts wishing me a speedy recovery. I have good reason for going MIA for a while. Many thanks, COVID! See everyone in the new year!
COVID is my adult version of a snow day. I’ve been savoring memories of sick days that I spent with Mom as a depressed eighth-grader. We watched daytime talk shows and ate ham-and-cheese sandwiches on whole wheat and glugged bright yellow Country Time lemonade. Thank goodness for that sanctioned hooky time, as my mother would get very sick the following year and die the next, officially marking the end of my childhood. Right now, I’d rather be sick with a potentially debilitating illness than live my “real life” as a sociology professor. Try as I might on this hungry academic treadmill, no accomplishment ever feels good enough. Instead, walking across the room and warming up a can of chicken soup is a triumph. I pat myself on the back. Good job.
Fine. My autoimmune condition has long made my health one big game of whack-a-mole. Let’s add a few more moving parts. I refuse to worry. Having reached some state of denial and zen, I’m now leaning into the pleasures of being sick. It’s a real treat. While the world is on fire outside, I’m cocooning. Alone at home, I can snot it up around my house and not worry I’m going to kill my father — who’s already dead — or my partner, who is in Germany for work. For the first time in I can’t remember how long, I don’t have to set a wake-up alarm. The ghost of my father implores me, “Sleep, sleep, you need sleep,” as he did when alive and I had so much as a case of the sniffles. I’ve been listening, blissfully sinking into night after night of NyQuil comas.
