Following TNT Sport’s decision to keep the Champions League final, taking place on Saturday evening, behind a paywall and unavailable to the British public via free-to-air supporter groups from nine Premier League clubs in Europe this season have issued the following statement – supported by the Prime Minister and FSA. Statement: ‘Football is for the fans. We stand together in support of the tradition of European club competition finals being shown free to air and urge TNT to honour this tradition by making the Champions League final free to watch for millions of fans, as it always has been. This is bigger than any one club or match. This is about putting fans first. There is still time to make the right call’. FSA response to the news that Real Madrid have finally accepted the death of the European Super League by ending legal action against UEFA. Tom Greatrex, chair of the Football Supporters' Association, said: "Florentino Pérez's European Zombie League has shambled along dead on its feet for years while Real Madrid and Barcelona tried to pretend it had a future. "It's taken Pérez almost five years to understand what fans instinctively knew - the European Super League would be widely despised and it was never going to work. "Let's not forget that six English clubs originally backed the competition as well. Football's top executives must never again try to stitch up things in secret - supporters have to be heard on the big issues."

Thomas Concannon, who leads the FSA’s England Fans’ Embassy, said: “These prices are astonishing - $2,000 for the cheapest final ticket is unacceptable. “If fans are successful in obtaining a category four ticket from the first game to the last, that could set them back $3,180 at least. That is more than double what Qatar cost. “Combined with travel to the Americas and accommodation, this will be the most expensive World Cup for matchgoing fans we've ever seen by some distance. “A healthy allocation of the lowest category of tickets should be made available to participating nations that are not affected by host city location or dynamic pricing. “Additionally, participating nation tickets should be located in key areas directly behind the goals to provide the best possible backing to their teams. “We'd urge the FA to work with other nations around the world to put pressure on FIFA to keep this World Cup financially accessible for matchgoing fans.”
Chief executive of the FSA Kevin Miles issued the following statement: “We have serious concerns about police forces deploying largely unproven technologies against matchgoing fans. “Misuse or inconsiderate deployment of DNA spray by officers could see innocent bystanders caught up in criminal justice procedures in which they have no reason to be entangled. “The arrest stats continue to show that football is an overwhelmingly safe activity – with just 5.5 arrests per 100,000 spectators last year. So we have to ask: is this necessary and is this proportionate? “What is particularly disappointing to us – at a time when Government has legislated to ensure fans have a voice in the game – is the total absence of consultation by the police.”

Football Supporters’ Association response to Conservative Party leader Kemi Badenoch’s claim that she’s “always said” she doesn’t back a “waste of money” football regulator… The FSA said: “It’s curious that Kemi Badenoch now opposes the regulator as we have seen correspondence she sent to a constituent a couple of years ago when she said ‘I support these reforms’. This is what’s known in football as an own goal, Kemi. “We’d also remind her that the Football Governance Bill was a Conservative Party proposal, which featured in their last manifesto, and many of her colleagues did excellent work on the Bill. She’s throwing that on the scrap heap to gain favour with a few rich club owners. “The Premier League is currently spending around £50m per season on legal fees fighting cases which could be handled by a regulator costing one-fifth of that, while protecting a lot more clubs. And football will cover the costs, this isn’t coming out of the public purse. “She claims to have spoken to people in the ‘industry’ – we prefer to call it the game – but that doesn’t appear to include the EFL who represent 72 clubs and back the regulator. Can Kemi let everyone know exactly who she’s spoken to in football? “She has certainly not spoken to the FSA or our supporter groups who are right behind this legislation which puts a block on domestic involvement in a European Super League, offers more protection to our clubs, and gives supporters a greater say in the game.”
