"'Here, One Day, May All I Am Be Welcome:' A Study Of Queer Appalachian Literature
Literature written by and about Appalachian Americans has largely been ignored by the mainstream. Even as the Appalachian literary world fights for representation and to combat harmful and reductionist works, smaller groups within the canon continue to be left behind. The idea of there being queer Appalachian literature often garners a response similar to when discussing LGBT+ populations living in Appalachia -- that they do not exist. The purpose of this study of queer Appalachian literature is to, firstly, further the awareness of queer Appalachian writers and their work; to study how those works have fought to be centered in Appalachian literary circles; to analyze their work and find common themes; and to draw parallels between queer Appalachian literature and social issues surroundings LGBT Appalachians."
