Tessa dropped to one knee and knelt before me, stabbing her sword’s tip in the ground. Her soft blonde hair shimmered between my fingers as they brushed through the strands, down to the side of her head, dragging my nails across her scalp, before making my way to her strong set jaw. She stood up and I immediately embraced her, pulling her into a kiss, our tongues sliding past one anothers’. My teeth bit down on her lip as I forcibly spread her mouth open, and her eyes screwed shut as I enjoyed what was mine. Steam rose from my smoldering cup of coffee, it clung to the window pane in one solid muggy fog, cloudy as the evening sky. To the right of me was the gray “mask bag” sitting comfortably in a cream chair. It was just masks, we would go there in plainclothes, then put on our masks in that weird ritual. “Coffee turn out well?” Lewis came up to me, eyes heavier than usual. he got some sleep, but not enough, besides Vanna we all slept over here, and the company clearly got to him. “Yes baby.” I grabbed his forearm, and pulled him close to me. we kissed eachother, a halfway between a chaste familial kiss, and a romantic one. He pulled back, and I clutched at his fingers as he did, he slowed, and leaned back down and gave me a peck on your forehead. “Don’t worry, we are gonna get your friend back.” I sighed, and my eyes moved away from his, I sipped the coffee and stiffened myself, staring out the window at the light pouring down on the slightly damp asphalt. “Don’t-” I set the cup down on the windowsill “Please don’t make promises you can’t keep.” he sat down beside me. “You’re right, I shouldn’t, I just want you to keep your hope alive.” He worked his face into a soft, calm smile. Lewis’s daughter, in that hospital bed, skinned burned off. Hope was the only thing that kept them going, more than hate, more than rage; was hope.
I break for the door with the cluster of bloxes flying out behund me, they land against the ground as I miss the impact of superheated steel behind me, it didint spalsh it tore through the van with ease, the boilign metal unfruled into a hot orange flower, at its center was Pyroclast, still armored. “Aight ‘Xida, you gone play? lets fucking play.” Pyro pulled a ball of glowing red hot metal from the hunk of scrap that used to be the van, and hurled it at me, I raised my hand up to stop it, and the ball exploded into a thousand shards of hot tear dropped shaped shrapnel. The metal began to heat up and she fired a jet of super-heated steel at my chest, even with my powers I was in the line of fire. I leap away from the howling blast, and it tears a hole into the final van. That’s when I notice I cant move my boot. The asphalt below my feet began melting into tar, ‘actual’ tar. I was stuck to the now thick dense ground. I was finally able to spot Tar Baby and Vanna. Vanna was in some type of clear bubble, immobile. Domino was trying desperately to fight the intangible figure that was playing this type of defense, I look back to the angry magma lesbian and remember the boxes were in the tar, slowly siinking in. “shit Shit SHIT!” as I try and run- to push them out of the way, about a dozen arrows fall from the sky around the pile up, and each explodes into a cloud of yellow green gas.
They’d cut them off at the intersection, Pyroclast would melt the train tracks above the road to block the transport off. The three would decend on them and fight the backup… Chernobyl’s Crew was not wise, not smart, and not particularly crafty. They were ultimatly a crew of a barely coherent nitwits who outside of their dangerous and powerful abilities were clowns who couldn’t plan a crime for shit. That’s when I realized that none of this made any sense. There was no way they could’ve gotten this info without a fixer- Hell Lombard couldn’t even get his hands on papers like this, No Aerial Support, not even a change log. It was finally clear to me that they were being fed info. I grabbed the camera from my pocket, and began taking photos of the board, making sure to get all the layout and details. With it all layed out in front of me I realized that best case scenerio this is outdated info, what worried me more than that is that I wasn’t sure what would be worst. This is either a trap, or is someone playing a game of chess and we are the pawns.
Vanna tapped a code on the yellowed key pad. The heavy door buzzed as it slid open with the help of a powerful motor bolted to the wall above its frame. Inside was a dark room, a few small office chairs, the walls were decorated with art that seemed somehow common and bougie; someone who wanted to look intelligent. In the center of the room, behind a hardwood desk, sitting on the fanciest chair of all was a man, tall, portly with a slicked back balding mullet. To his right was an ornate metal helmet that harkened back to some old European style. “The Thorn!” Lombard growled out, his voice was uniquly and distinctly chicagoan in a way I only saw in parody. With the utterance of the Teams name everyone slid on their masks. Touko handed me mine, I slid in on, and put my glasses over it, Lombard, slid on his helmet ataching it with a leather strap. “What can I do for you today?”
The drive was rapid and quiet, even more so than the mission earlier in the day, I wasn’t sure why Touko wasn’t talking, couldve been fear of bugs, couldve been anxiety, regardless of the events earlier, but the fear was still present. We finally ride up to the house, and we peel out of the car, Lewis lets us in, he was in a green robe, his house looked like a family home, it was sickingly domesestic. Valerie was wearing nothing but a tshirt and hopefully panties, thankfully covered by the oversized top. She was on the phone with someone.

I looked over at Valerie, her head dropped and her shoulders sagged, she was on the verge of crying. I wrapped my arms around her and stood there standing in defiance of the Superhero. “it’s already happened.” he walked to the mask and picked it up, examining it. “Hasn’t it?” He handed me the mask and I tore it from his hands. “You don’t give holiness to a dog.” Ohm sauntered off, sure of himself, vindicated in his crulty. I closed the distance between us. Moving close before pressing my chest into his, stepping on my toes to meet his height. “I know who I put my trust behind, and sadly she didn’t and it bit her in the ass.” He took a deep spiteful huff as he boiled Ohm swung for me, I dodged, Oxida came up behind us launched herself at the man. He metal glove shattered the black visor, her reflection with it. “FUCk MY EYE.” stary shard of glass? “You don’t matter to me anymore, I forgot you even existed. You think you scare me?” she looked down at him, taunting. Oxida stared down at the shrinking man and smiled her soft grin, unloving stillness turned sadism turned pride. “I don’t know what you’d think youd get for confronting me?” She beckoned her helmet back to her, a rusty demon skull flew across the room and into her open hand. “What can heroes do to me? I eat gods for breakfast.”

For at times, being inconsiderate.” I listend to her accusations, bit my lip and looked away “Now your wondering why you came here. Just to get psycho analizyed?” “No-” “tell me, you got in trouble with the Guild- what for?” I took more of the room in while I breathed in, the scents and the slight fermented scent of the empty wine cans and musk, the soft fibers of the couchi ran my hands against the beige fabric. “I almost killed a cop.” Connie grabbed another sip of the wine and chuckled. “Wow that’s fucking hot.”
The room was focused and concetrated, the motly they had formed was effectively organized into an actual force. Zeus headed back to their seat along side Iron Maiden, going around opposite sides of the table to reach their specific points. There was a soft blue fonted sign outlined in similar piping on a white background; It read Peace Offerings Funeral Home. “This is one of the few known images of Ghoul, one of the aberrant we can confirm the presence of .” Kitty typically kept a soft smile on her face, this was one of the few times this evening where she hadn’t. Another image popped up of a few moments later, a soft green light going from the point of contact between Ghoul and the man.

Before giving us something to work with. “Fine, this is an understanble request, Morrigan-” The little redhead reaches into a small compartment to her right, the red head pulled out a tablet and handed it to Helena, who immediately started scrolling through it. “The hospital your daughter is at is Northwestern yes?” “Is that a threat?” my voices was more of a frantic yelp of scared animal than question, but with a tinge of disappointment she’d look at me, eyes tilted forward. “No.” “Yes then.” she clicked a few more buttons before giving the tablet back to ‘Morrigan’ who herself proceeded to place the tablet back inside the compartment.
”It’s funny, first time I ever went out in costume, I prayed to St Michael… don’t think he’d be willing to lend much help now.” I chuckled half heardly beneath my mask. “St. Dismas.” Ohm peaked over at me “Who’s he?” “Patron Saint of Repentant Thieves.” he rested his gun barrel against the floor of the van. “What if im not Repentant?” “Then you don’t need to pray.” We drove in realtive silence.

I followed suit. “Nah, I don’t know Zeus the best, and it feels like a friends and family affair.” Tessa scooted to the edge of the bed I followed suit, my ass and thighs were sore and stung a bit as I tired to get up. “God you two wore me the fuck out.” I stretched my back trying to squeeze every last crook out They both smiled at each other before turning to me, my face went flush as I covered my chest with the top I had wore last night before we ‘entangled.’ Gia smiled her toothy grin “You regret it at all?” I moved back over to her and gave her a deep arm kiss, her mouth tasted like darkness, raw and potent, it was a midly form that I smelled in that jail over a month ago. “Not for a momment.”

I tapped my foot against the floor, the lingering shivers of fear compelled me to move. The sole of my costume’s feet made sure the tapping was silent against the hard ceramic panel. I took a breath and stood, and began to pace back and forth across the room. I was told to be seated when the door opens, but I didn’t care; I needed to do something more than sit still. I sat still for a day and a half.
The rice cooker chimed to signify it was done and I began to ladle them out into the the fancy bowls we used for asian dishes. Chaulky black little pockets that reminded me of my power. The cutlets were finally done draining the oil from their crackly surface. I sliced the pork into thin strips perect for shingling on the top of the mound of rice. The smell of ginger was intense, much more than id like for this dish and I felt cold water rise through my body. I finished the bowls with some basic steamed veggies and curry glaze. Unfortunatly too thick to get the nice drizzle from the spoon for plating but judging by how much smoke filled the living room at this point, I doubt anyone would mind. I carefully set aside bowl sealed with a supper-ware top for Valerie. After I set the bowls around the table I sat down next to Touko, and grabbed the bong from him. The bowl was already well charred but something being deeply oxidized has yet to stop me in any endevor. I brought the scorpion engraved lighter to the bowl and it the remaining bud on fire. I pulled the acrid smoke past my tongue and into my lungs, I felt it burn inside me as the subtle feeling of intoxication warmed my body. I pushed the air from my lungs like a dragon’s breath. Before I coughed up a mix of phlegm and tar onto the table in a sobbing retch. Touko screwed his face at me as three black dots fell from between my lips “Dammit Touk what time is it?”
“I guess… goodbye.” I could barely eek the words out as the gulf between us widened, still stuck between my past and my future and the last thing I wanted before all of that ended. Finality, my wardship, my time as hero, an acknowledgment that I could finally move on. Apollo gave me my gift, he blinked his good eye slowly, once. The old man in white gave a slow but purposeful nod before he finished making his way up the steps to the dead mansion. “Good work, Ferrous.”
Two shots pierced into Pyroclast and knocked her back onto the train tracks. The same second a yellow flash blazed across the overpass, Pyro was gone, and the flash caught the corner of my eye. “WHIP THE CHAIN AROUND YOU-” A large gash spread across Tar Baby’s stomach as she tried to brace against the side of the van, I used my power to spin the chain around my body like a hurricane, wind wipping around me and all. Tar Baby dashed into the intersection while she smeared blood from her torn side across her body as it rapidly turned into tar. I tried predicting the next attack when another slash drew across the Tar Baby’s body. She collapsed to the ground before digging her hands into it. The Demon turned the asphalt beneath her into a large murky puddle of tar. Domino softly landed onto on the now flipped transport truck, and managed to clothesline Hyper mid bound, she fell off of the truck and onto the pavement. I heaved the heavy chain towards her. The inertia from the rotation speed the ball as It bludgeoned her in the ribs, before coiling around her body. I couldn’t let her move so made the chain clench around her tight. Hyper began to scream as I distinctly felt a pair of ribs break beneath the rusty constriction.
“I’m joining the Thorn, and I want in on whatever method you use to launder their money.” “Ah- now that’s no problem” He pulled out a document of many out of his sheaf of papers and filled it out line by line. The petulant frog grinned beneath his helmet. “What is your legal name?” “Valerie Esmeralda Vargas.” Lombard let out a quick chortle that sounded like he was pushing weak old phlem through a straw. “I mean your legal name darling.” making sure to draw a dotted line with his fingers in the air before pointing past me to Vanna. “This one had to learn the hard way” I folded my arms, starightend my face, and locked eyes with Lombard. “It is my legal name.” I shot the snail a smart smile. “I thought you had documents on me?”
