An incredible view of the surface of Mars, taken two days ago. You can almost feel like you're standing there—the sand shifting underfoot, the absolute silence, the unreal sensation of walking on a surface never before visited by a living creature. (Also your suit is leaking, you'll die here)

This view is a composite of 15 NASA Perseverance rover Mastcam-Z Left images taken Saturday, 13 June 2026 at a local Jezero Crater time of around 3:30 pm. I've balanced the colour and tweaked the brightness to better represent human vision; the sky has been replaced to fill in mosaic gaps.

Never fear - just over the rise are the twin archs of a Macdonalds. Pressurised I am sure.

If you suit leaks just breath shallow and plug the hole with dirt and blood aka the Martian

“…never before visited by a living creature.” I think that’s a pretty serious stretch.

"walking on a surface never before visited by a living creature" Are you sure, Earthling? 👽

Throwing your helmet open only to realize you can breathe the air because something about algae rockets, and also you're Val Kilmer.

At least one of the Viking landers had a stereo-optic camera and NASA published the images so you could view them in 3D

Pet Peeve: In the film THE MARTIAN we never see the hero doing suit maintenance, notwithstanding the many, many hours he spends in EVAs. My headcanon is [SPOILER] that he works on his suit during delays waiting for replies to his messages to Earth, which the film also mostly omits. #AllEyesOnMars
