It is a cloudy night, the canal takes the centre of the picture, house boats line the edges of the canal, lights shine above the pavement on both sides and a footbridge can be seen in the distance, straddling the dark water, some trees also line the pavement, behind the trees older 2 or 3 story buildings can be seen, some lit up from the windows, these buildings are centuries old. The picture is monochrome.
On dusk a boatman powers his boat down the canal in Venice, poles line the canal and many buildings crowd the far shore, none of the buildings are straight as the sink into the mud, each one has a different colour, style and window type.
