To USA From An Aussie 🏳️‍⚧️ Even here in Australia we are feeling the effects of this, our transphobic Prime Minister (Anthony 'Albo' Albanese) will cowardly cave to anything Trump says, and he's of our more "left" of the two major parties. I have customers wearing Trump merch and glaring at my pride pins, going on anti-choice rants to my POC midwife-to-be coworker, and we just have to smile and nod. One of our eight states suspended HRT for under 18s and are trying to push further, including privatising what little we have left of our healthcare system nationally. Pride flags that are legally required to be flown in hospitals are "disappearing" alongside the flags for Aboriginal and TS Islander people (Our native peoples). I am hoping I can get surgery and ID changes before anything happens like you guys are suffering through. Our election is going to be this year and I am honestly crying I'm so scared, I can't imagine your horror. We have compulsory voting, and our media is owned by Rupert Murdoch. My friends and I are trying our best to educate our peers but apathetic voting is so normalized over here, people just vote how they're told to. I've lost friendships over trying to get people, genZs, to take an interest and think about how to use their vote but the just don't care! My heart goes out to you all, this is a global issue, and we need to unite against it, for more than just the 'war-on-pride' fear mongering, but also the fight for POC/immigrants, for Palestine & Ukraine, for the disabled and those lower-income & homeless/unhoused. Including opening our arms to those that had the leopards eat their face, because they will bridge a gap to welcome in more of them, and when the dust settles we can focus back on bring them left.
