seems like we need to look to the rest of the world for how to build quickly, and affordable. Using USA based designers and planners doesn't seem to be working cost wise. There has to be other ways to build, seeing projects from around the world doing it for a fraction of the cost its possible

No. This is a tough day for anyone who likes rail If it costs $100 million/mile to build track from LA to Las Vegas then we just aren’t going to build much new rail at all

It should take no great argument or ideology to recognize that passenger rail is a public service, like the alternatives and have unmatchable multiple and unique good qualities not provided by the others and it deserves equal or even higher make-up-for-the-past public investment!

Sooner or later it will come up against the same barriers & the reason we have Amtrak in the first place. That barrier is the fact that any passenger railroad (or actually freight for that matter) will realize that they are competing against vast taxpayer-subsidized roads, air and even waterways.
