Rivian has done a lot of things right in its short history, but now, its entire existence hinges on the success of one car: the R2. Read more from @andyjayhawk.bsky.social: www.theverge.com/cs/features/...

It's too expensive $130k Looks great Its a mortgage payment

Their first Gen pickup sucks. My son has had so many problems with his he dumped his and bought a Jeep.

Franssu · 16d

It’s not a car. It’s a giant SUV.

Maybe they give Trump 5% of the company and get him to buy a fleet of these for the federal workforce.

Doug Demuro and the This Car Pod! gang spoke highly of it. They advised splurging for the Premium version because it has AWD, but that won't be out until later this year.

For like 80k? No thank you.

Could not justify paying over $100,000 for a T1 Rivian, I was hopeful for the R2 however I saw Rivian giving mills to CEO when claiming to lose $$ on every vehicle and coming out with the priciest R2 models first, I’m out.

Too bad it’s such an ugly design.

“Detroit botched the EV transition. Tesla is making robots now. The US market is ice cold. Can Rivian go the distance?” This statement seems off. Currently Detroit is doing fine with EV. US market is very much EV. Finally Rivan makes Amazon vans and other things. R2 is not their only product.

Yeah, they're fucked.

Jörg-Peter Schnitzler · 16d

I will keep fingers crossed for Rivian.

Soooooo hideous

This R2 lacks the D2. Just saying

@roofrack99.bsky.social · 16d

First time I've heard of them.

They need to get the R3 out ASAP. We don't need more big, overpriced SUVs and trucks, even if they are EVs.

@1aud1.bsky.social · 16d

Never will buy an american car again

whats enough

@kswaggest.bsky.social · 16d

Rivian seems to have nice vehicles but even this R2 starts at $45,000 pricing out the majority of buyers but better than their other vehicles that are $70k or even $90k base. This is why we need Chinese EV imports as besides the $10-20k price tag, it will bring down prices & force competition

@straightarrow67.bsky.social · 16d

Iconic? Iconic is the model T, the VW bug. Cars the masses can afford and get to their jobs in and live their lives. This ain't it.

Hoon · 16d

I get Rivian is cash strapped. While the R2 may be good enough for the stagnant US market, it is subpar in the international market, namely its slow charging capability. If the R2 succeeds, it needs to be able to succeed against Chinese competitors, which is doubtful

Betting an entire existence on a single chassis. It’s not a product launch; it’s a high-stakes autopsy.

@d4vid71red.bsky.social · 16d

As long as it’s made in Germany it should be ok.

F.N. · 16d

I keep telling people about Rivian. Once my current ride is paid off, they’re who I’m looking at first. My only gripe is the truck is a bit too sleek. I need someone to make an EV that resembles 80s trucks.

You Can't Smoke Bitcoin · 16d

They cost way WAY too much

Sean - Tech Tempest ⚡ · 16d

Can't wait until October when I get mine. Will be my first EV.

ArtOfNAR · 16d

Do you think automakers will ever consider what a bad idea LED headlights were and begin using warm lights again, which don't blind everyone at night or during inclement weather requiring headlights? Same with streetlights reflecting off of rain and only providing a tiny spotlight. #FuckLED

Process Analyzer · 16d

R2 is coming into a huge market segment with heavy competition both EV and oil burning. It might be a hit if they get the launch quality right.

@envy2026.bsky.social · 16d

I hear it’s not comfortable

Who unleashed the asshole robots? So many lies in the comments. Yes, every growth company "hinges" on the success of its next big release to grow. Lazy!
