Aroland First Nation Community Update Forest Fire Evacuation Update

July 15, 2026

Chief Sonny Gagnon and Council wish to advise community members that evacuations are now underway for Priority Level 1 and Priority Level 2 members.

Transportation

School buses and community vans are picking up passengers at Johnny Therriault Memorial School.

All members requiring transportation are asked to register at the school before boarding.

Members Using Their Own Vehicles

Community members travelling in their own vehicles must also register at Johnny Therriault Memorial School before leaving. Once registered, you will receive information regarding gas assistance for your travel.

Evacuation Destination

Evacuees will be travelling to Sudbury, Ontario, where accommodations have been arranged at the Clarion Hotel.

Additional information regarding check-in procedures and other supports will be provided upon arrival.

Chief and Council ask everyone to remain calm, follow the directions of Emergency Response staff, and be patient as we work together to ensure a safe and orderly evacuation. Our priority continues to be the safe evacuation of Elders, children, individuals with medical needs, and their caregivers.

We thank all staff, volunteers, emergency responders, and community members who are helping during this emergency. Your cooperation and support are greatly appreciated.
