House Democrat says Trump address is pretext to dispute midterm results By Elissa Fitzgerald Represenative Joseph Morelle says he is troubled by the president's apparent attempts to sow confusion and spread misinformation ahead of the midterm elections in November. The New York representative is the ranking Democrat on the House Administration committee, which oversees federal voting and election matters. "This is a pretext for the president, I think, calling into dispute the 2026 elections," Morelle said on C-SPAN. "We have secure elections," he added. "This is a fundamental effort to weaken the foundation of our democracy."

In the meantime, congressional Democrats have largely failed to rise to the occasion, beyond a few small performative acts. They’ve failed to block any significant Trump action, and occasionally even supported them. Their failure to rule against political funding from the Israeli lobby and other big-money groups suggests that they don’t understand why they lost to Trump in the first place. On average, they exhibit a greater interest in electoral funding than in supporting issues important to voters – like basic human rights. There is a serious risk that potential Democratic voters remain unenthusiastic and, once again, simply stay at home come November. Alas, unlike in other countries, the particular electoral structure in the US prevents alternative parties from being viable, and so the Democrats provide the only serious opposition to the Republicans.

British PM announces resignation By Riley Stuart in London Sir Keir has announced his resignation. "The question my party is asking now is whether I am best placed to lead us into the next general election. I have heard the answer to that question. I accept that answer with good grace. "Every decision I've taken has been about putting the country I love first. That is why I will resign as leader of the Labour Party." Sir Keir says he told King Charles about his decision this morning.
