This campaign from the start has always been about transparency, confronting Ohio’s culture of corruption, and good government. The JobsOhio scandal here demonstrates exactly what we’re on about. The last few decades have seen the outsourcing of core governmental functions to a network of related and less accountable non-profit and private sector entities. These networks consume vast government funds while obscuring their destination or the effectiveness of any given program. Creating immense opportunity for political patronage, self-dealing, and kickbacks at the taxpayers expense and with nothing to show for it.

It’s time to start moving beyond this “new governance” model. Correct course. Outsourcing to non-profits and the private sector in many ways was motivated by trying to avoid the bureaucracy and the sluggishness of oversight and accountability. Well it turns out those things matter.
