If we can ever do is watch, does it matter if we can see it coming?
“Dragonfly, we should let her rest,” Fireweed breathes, but [censored] holds up a finger, first, and motions me closer. Stiffly, carefully, I get to my feet, and I lean in—only to find a gentle hand taking me by the back of my head, pulling me into the warmth of a tender kiss. “I am glad you made it out,” she breathes into my lips. “Don’t let anyone convince you otherwise. Not even you.”
A complicating factor indeed. God damn you, Dragonfly… why must you commit to methods that are so wholly you? No challenge too great to surmount with brute force. No wall that can’t be beaten to death with your skull. Hah. I can try to dismiss her, but her methods are impossible to dismiss; here I am, thinking about her still, her words ringing in my ears like artillery fire. She so easily slips under my skin, perhaps a trait natural to any you’ve allowed into your heart. I miss her with an ache that never entirely fades.
