He was clad in an elaborate green jacket, lined and ornamented with gold, and his head looked naked without his usual circlet. He wore close fitting high waisted trousers that clung to his thick thighs, and a set of medium height boots that were polished so finely that Kyran could probably see his own reflection if he stood close enough. Casian drummed his fingers nervously at his side as he met Kyran’s gaze, and Kyran wondered what he saw.
It didn't matter how many fears plagued Silvius' mind because sleep came to them too easily. They didn't even realize that they had fallen asleep until they were being roughly shaken awake by Aurora. Her skin was highlighted by the moonlight and the brush of gold beneath her right eye seemed to glow. "We have to go," she whispered, her voice low enough that it was nearly drowned out by the muffled sounds of the tavern bow them. They had the feeling that she had never fallen asleep in the first place. They didn't feel like they had slept either, but from the position of the moon in the sky, hours had to have passed.

For all of his secrets, there was plenty that Cassian knew about him. He knew just how hard to press when Kyran was struck with a particularly nasty migraine, how to knead the tension from his muscles and joints when he was worn out from a day of fighting. He knew when he couldn’t handle talking, how he drank his coffee and tea, and the way that hearing silverware scrape against dishes felt agonizing. He knew his favorite color was violet, that he’d painstakingly tended to the gardens at the Sun Estate for ages before trusting them to someone else, that he cut his own hair because he didn’t trust other people near it. He knew that Kyran’s first loves were Dokka and Phobos, and that he’d never quite fallen out of love with them, but rather nurtured it into something else—something stronger. He knew how terrified Kyran was of what other people saw in him, and how terrified he was of what they stood for, even if he didn’t know the full story.

"What the hell," Mac said. Red. He almost didn't want to eat out of spite. They didn't even have a say in what was very likely their last meal. Still, Mac's mouth was dry and his stomach felt hollow. He lifted the glass to his lips before frowning with distaste. Apricot seltzer, only it was warm.
He moved again, rapidly taking a swing towards Kyran’s side, but Kyran dodged his blow and trapped his sword with the length of his chain. When he yanked the chain down, Felix staggered. “You really did a number on Cassian last night,” Kyran’s voice was rough, barely indiscernible as Felix struggled to yank his sword free. “You should have seen the look on his face,” another swing of the chain as Felix barely dove out of the way.
