What does Kane want? Pending UFA Patrick Kane definitely wants to play another season, his agent Pat Brisson said on Wednesday. That's all Brisson would share. Kane, 37, put up 57 points in 67 games this past season, a solid 0.85 points per game average. My understanding is that the Red Wings do want Kane back and have made that clear. What remains undetermined is whether Kane wants to return. He certainly might, but he's mulling things over at the moment about whether to stay put or head to market.
An intermission thought, if you'll indulge me... Our sense for the past month has been that MIN, CAR and DET were the top 3 teams to watch for Trocheck, and with Minny backing off earlier today, I keep coming back to Detroit as a logical fit. That's not necessarily based on any new info, but the Wings have the assets to do it and every reason to be aggressive as they march toward the playoffs for the first time in a decade. Yzerman and Drury are similarly tight-lipped, so it's hard for anyone to get a firm read, but multiple people I spoke to today are wondering the same thing. I'm not making any predictions at this stage -- I'm sure teams are involved who we're not talking about as much -- but that's where my mind keeps drifting with 19 hours to go until the deadline.
