But a lot of us are let down because we want people to see an adaptation and understand why the source material is so dear to us, and the adaptation is too divergent for that.

Reading is a solitary activity and too few appreciate it, so with adaptations come hopes of connection. But anyone who only watched the Wheel of Time TV series or the Lord of the Rings films could only have half an idea of why the books are beloved, because they simply lack the material.
